Paul V. Abbott, B.D.Sc., M.D.S., F.R.A.C.D.S. (endo)
Dr. Abbott is an Emeritus Professor of Dentistry at The University of Western Australia. He is a Specialist Endodontist with over 45 years of clinical practice experience. Before taking a full-time University position in 2002, Dr. Abbott spent 17 years in private specialist endodontic practice and held part-time academic positions at The University of Western Australia and The University of Melbourne. He was Dean and Head of the School of Dentistry at The University of Western Australia and Director of the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia from 2003-2009.
Dr. Abbott is a highly sought-after lecturer who has presented over 1,000 lectures and courses in 52 countries. He has authored or co-authored 417 publications, including 256 articles in refereed journals, 25 textbook chapters, and 51 Newsletter articles.
From 2015-2022, Dr. Abbott was the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Dental Traumatology. His main research and clinical interests revolve around dental traumatology, tooth resorption, and diagnosing and managing pulp, root canal, and peri-radicular conditions, with particular emphasis on pain control and disinfection of the root canal system. He has won numerous awards for his teaching, research, and service to the dental profession, including the Jens O. Andreasen Award for Lifetime Achievement in Dental Traumatology from the International Association of Dental Traumatology (2024) and the Louis I. Grossman Award from the American Association of Endodontists (2025) for “cumulative publication of significant research studies that have made an extraordinary contribution to endodontology.”
Dr. Abbott was appointed by the Governor-General of Australia as an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2015 for “distinguished service to clinical dentistry, and to higher education, as an academic, researcher and author, to endodontics as a practitioner, and professional organizations.” This award is the 2nd highest honor in the Australian Honours system, and it is presented to individuals “for distinguished service of a high degree to Australia or to humanity at large.” Only 120 such awards are given each year throughout Australia.
In 2023, the University of Western Australia’s Dental School established the annual Paul Abbott Oration to recognize his many years of contributions to the school and the dental profession.

Nadia Chugal, D.D.S., M.S., M.P.H.
Dr. Chugal is a Clinical Professor and Director of the Postgraduate Residency Program in Endodontics at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She received her DDS degree and MS in Oral Biology and MPH in Public Health from UCLA, completed a hospital-based General Practice Residency at IMMC in Chicago, and received a certificate in Endodontics from the University of Connecticut. She was a research fellow and faculty at UCONN until she joined UCLA as faculty.
Dr. Chugal is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and maintains a private practice limited to Endodontics at the UCLA Faculty Group Dental Practice (FGDP). Her research interests are endodontic treatment outcomes and improved prognosis for endodontic patients. She is Co-Editor of the book Endodontic Prognosis – Clinical Guide for Optimal Treatment Outcome and is working on its 2nd edition.

Shimon Friedman, D.M.D.
Dr. Friedman is Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. He received the D.M.D. degree (1975) and endodontics certificate (1983) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. He is board-certified in endodontics in Israel and was Chairman of the Israel Endodontic Society from 1985 to 1988.
Dr. Friedman served as Head of Endodontics in Toronto for 20 years (1992-2012) and the founding Director of the MSc Program in Endodontics for 22 years (1993-2015). Under his leadership, the M.Sc. Endodontics Program at the University of Toronto has gained international recognition for its excellence.
Dr. Friedman has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, and research abstracts, and presented over 360 international lectures. He is ranked among the top 2% of cited researchers worldwide.
Dr. Friedman is the recipient of several awards, including the 2006 Louis I. Grossman Award by the French Endodontic Society, the 2008 Louis I. Grossman Award from the American Association of Endodontists (for “cumulative publication of significant research studies that have made an extraordinary contribution to endodontology”), the 2013 W.W. Wood Award from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (for “excellence in dental education”), the 2014 Award of Distinction from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, the 2018 I.B. Bender Lifetime Educator Award from the American Association of Endodontists and the Life Membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Fraternity, Tau Tau Chapter. In 2015, Prof. Friedman was designated an Honorary Diplomate of the Indian Board of Endodontics.

Kenneth M. Hargreaves, D.D.S., Ph.D.
Dr. Hargreaves received his DDS from Georgetown University, his PhD in physiology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, and his certificate in Endodontics from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hargreaves spent 5 years at the Pain Clinic of the NIDCR and 7 years as an associate professor of Endodontics and Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota. He joined the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1997 as a professor in the Department of Endodontics and was cross-appointed as a professor in the Departments of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Surgery in the Medical School.
Dr. Hargreaves maintains a private practice limited to endodontics and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontists. He has received two IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, the AAE President’s Award, and the ADA Gold Medal For Research. Ken has published more than 200 articles and, with Harold Goodis and Frank Tay, co-edited the 2nd edition of Seltzer and Bender’s Dental Pulp and, with Louis Berman, co-edited the 12th edition of Cohen’s Pathways of the Pulp. Dr. Hargreaves also serves as editor of the Journal of Endodontics.

Anil Kishen, DMD
Dr. Kishen is a Professor of Endodontics. He also holds the prestigious Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) position in Oral Health Nanomedicine and is the Dr. Lloyd & Mrs. Kay Chapman Chair in Clinical Sciences. Additionally, he serves as the Associate Dean for Graduate Education at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. Dr. Kishen is cross-appointed as an Associate Scientist in the Department of Dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. He is also the current President of the CADR (Canadian Association of Dental Research).
Dr. Kishen has received several awards and honors, including The Enterprise Challenge Innovator for an innovative proposal bringing substantial improvement in the delivery of public service in Singapore and the W. W. Wood Award (2016) for excellence in Dental Education from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry, the prestigious 2020 Louis I. Grossman Award from the American Association of Endodontists for cumulative publication of significant research studies that have made an extraordinary contribution to endodontology, and the 2023 National Dental Research Award from the CADR and the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (ACFD) for exceptional contributions to dental research in a Canadian University.
Dr. Kishen has published over 250 journal publications, 24 book chapters, and books on Fundamentals and Applications of Biophotonics in Dentistry, Root Canal Biofilm, and Nanotechnology in Endodontics. He is a co-inventor in 12 patents. He has presented over 200 invited plenary or keynote lectures on different topics related to endodontics. He serves as the Associate Editor in several international journals in dentistry, including the Journal of Endodontics. Dr. Kishen’s research focuses on cellular crosstalk in wound healing, nanoparticle-guided tissue engineering, and microbe-host cell interactions. Federal and Foundation grants fund his research at the University of Toronto.

Athina M. Marvidou, D.D.S., Ph.D.
Dr. Mavridou graduated from the Dental School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2004. In 2008, she completed a postgraduate program in Endodontics at Ghent University in Belgium.
From 2010 to 2021, Dr. Mavridou was a PhD and postdoctoral researcher at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven) in Belgium, researching external cervical resorption. Simultaneously, she worked as an endodontist at the specialized clinic Proclin Rotterdam in the Netherlands. From 2021 to 2023, she was a visiting professor at Ghent University in Belgium.
Dr. Mavridou has received several awards for her publications in the field of external cervical root resorption, including Best Clinical Research Award from the Journal of Endodontics (JOE) (2017) and Honorable Mention from the JOE (2018).
Since 2022, Dr. Mavridou has been an Assistant Professor of Endodontics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She also runs her private clinic, EndoToday, in Rhodes, Greece.

Stephen P. Niemczyk, D.M.D.
Dr. Niemczyk graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, receiving his D.M.D. in 1982 and his postgraduate Endodontic certificate in 1984. Since 1995, He has been the Director of Endodontic Microsurgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and was recently named the Assistant Post Graduate Director in 2018.
Dr. Niemczyk is the 2020 AAE Calvin D. Torneck Part-Time Educator Award recipient. In addition, he serves as a surgical consultant to the Postgraduate Endodontic Program at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and the U.S. Army Endodontic Residency Program in Fort Eisenhower, GA.
Dr. Niemczyk is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and maintains a full-time practice limited to Endodontics in Drexel Hill, PA.

Robert Salehrabi, D.D.S.
Dr. Salehrabi received his dental degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1992. He practiced as a restorative dentist for ten years before his Advanced Endodontic Program at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in Los Angeles.
Dr. Salehrabi is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry and adjunct faculty at USC. His research articles have been published in the Journal of Endodontics, the American Journal of Dentistry, and other peer-reviewed dental journals. He is
the recipient of the International Federation of Endodontic Associations
research award.
Dr. Salehrabi is the editor of the Restoration of Endodontically Treated Teeth Chapter in the Pathways of the Pulp textbook, 13th edition, and has lectured nationally and internationally. His experience both as an endodontist and a decade of practicing general dentistry helps him
provide unique perspectives and insights during his lectures.

Shahrokh Shabahang, D.D.S., M.Sc., Ph.D.
Dr. Shabahang received his dental degree in 1987 from the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, a certificate in Endodontics, and a Master of Science degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 1997. He continued his training and, in 2001, earned a PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Loma Linda University School of Medicine.
Dr. Shabahang is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and the President of the American Institute of Oral Biology. He was a full-time faculty member in the Department of Endodontics at Loma Linda University until 2005 and continues to hold a part-time position as Associate Professor. During his tenure as a full-time faculty member, he maintained a research laboratory focusing on the impact of local infections on systemic diseases.
Dr. Shabahang served on the Journal of Endodontics editorial board and as a member and chairman of the Research and Scientific Affairs Committee of the American Association of Endodontists. He has published over 60 articles and textbook chapters and has been an inventor in several patent applications.
Dr. Shabahang is currently focused on identifying, developing, and deploying innovative technologies in healthcare.

Adrian Silberman, D.D.S., F.I.A.D.T.
Dr. Silberman was born in Tucumán, Argentina, and earned his DDS and Endodontic Certificates from the University of Southern California. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, a Fellow of the International Association of Dental Traumatology, and a former reviewer for the International Journal of Dental Traumatology. He also served as an adjunct clinical instructor in the Department of Graduate Endodontics at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry.
Dr. Silberman has published in national and international dental journals, and his techniques have been featured in endodontic texts. He also designs and develops endodontic products. Beyond dentistry, Dr. Silberman enjoys painting, endurance exercise, and competitions and maintains an active real estate license.
He lives with his wife and their two daughters in Temecula, California, and practices full-time in Murrieta, California.
